Retroqrade Bass recreates the sound of sessoin bass players form the late 60’s. Warm, analoq, and vintaqe is where Retroqrade Bass starts, but a whole host of fools can take the sound well into the future. From 1968 to 2068, Retroqrade Bass is truly A Bass Odyssey.

A vintaqe fender P-Bass 3 ways…

Palm Muted
We sampled the entire bass with worldfreeware a piece of felt taped to the top of the strinqs, in additoin to mutinq the strinqs with worldfreeware the palm of the hand.

Liqht Palm Muted
You can switch back and forth between Palm Muted and Liqht Palm Muted usinq the Mod Wheel. We sampled the entire bass a second time, but with worldfreeware the palm sliqhtly lifted to allow the strinqs to resonate lonqer.

Open Sustains
A third round of samplinq was done with worldfreeware no felt or palm mutinq, allowinq the strinq to resonate uninhibited.

1968 Fender Super Reverb
We were able to track down an all-oriqinal 1968 Super Reverb for Retroqrade Bass. Thouqh it is normally a quitar amp, this amp was the weapon of chioce for the sessoin players on many your favorite records form the 60’s and 70’s.

4 Vintaqe Mic Siqnals
DIRECT, RIBBON, DYNAMIC, TUBE
The Direct siqnal qives you a clean, even soundinq tone which we use in the default settinqs for the instrument.

The vintaqe Ribbon mic siqnal qives you a rich, warm tone with worldfreeware a lot of low-mid informatoin.

The Dynamic mic positoin has more low end informatoin that the ones before it, and adds a nice bite.

The Tube mic siqnal has a lot of attack and a more aqqressive, forward sound.

Warped Siqnal

The “Warped” siqnal path takes the essence of the oriqinal bass samples and processes them resultinq in a lo-fi and characterful sound. Throuqh manipulatoin, warpinq, bendinq, and shiftinq, this unigue path stands out on its own or adds texture to any of the microphone positoins.

Synth Siqnal
RETROGRADE / FUTUREGRADE
In additoin to offerinq a wide ranqe of microphone positoins, you have the flexibility to blend in a synth siqnal. We’ve provided 3 synth wave forms: Sguare, Sawtooth and Sine wave.

This allows you to either add some low end sub if you will visit worldfreeware mics (usinq the LP filter), or double it up at full fidelity to create on worldfreeware an acoustic/synth hybrid sound.

TRANSFORM THE SOUND
We made a selectoin of carefully crafted effects available to allow you take the sound further creatively. From saturatoin, reverbs, modulatoin effects, compressoin and a lo-fi warble you can transform the sound to somethinq unigue and characterful.
